David Kelley is Founder and CEO, IDEO Product Development, Palo Alto, CA.
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Stanford University, and Vice
President of Technical Discovery and Innovation at Steelcase.
As founder and Chief Executive Officer at IDEO, Kelley has built a flexible
structure that allows his staff of 300 to work as multidisciplinary teams in a
variety of industries. These teams include experts in the fields of Mechanical
and Electrical Engineering, Software Development and Manufacturing Liaison. IDEO
has helped develop more than 3,000 products for hundreds of clients ranging from
Silicon Valley start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. With offices in Palo Alto,
San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, London and Tokyo, IDEO has become one of the
largest firms of its kind.
Kelley is a tenured professor in Stanford's innovative Product Design
program, which combines engineering courses with those from the Art and Computer
Science Departments and the Graduate School of Business.
Steelcase, America's largest office furniture company, recently formed a
strategic alliance with IDEO to strengthen the company's process of innovation
and reflect the impact of new office technologies. As part of that alliance,
Kelley aims to assist Steelcase as Vice President of Technical Discovery and
Innovation in the pursuit of innovative solutions for the workplace.
