At the heart of the LOC Global service is a secure,
Web-based workspace that can be quickly tailored to centralize and summarize
all pertinent information for a specific project. This intranet serves as a bible of current capability, as well as a comprehensive
historical record of a specific project's logistics.
Members of your
team update the intranet as soon as new information becomes
available. It becomes your companion, to keep you current on
your dynamic and constantly evolving operation.
What does the LOC Global
intranet
look like?

How does the LOC Global
intranet
work?
- Select Tool
–
To start a new project, select
from the following web-based tools: wiki pages, forums, surveys, databases,
calendars, blogs, FAQs, articles.
- Create Document
–
A project inside the LOC Intranet looks and feels like a normal
Intranet or Internet web site. However it also has an Edit This Page link on
every page; any team member can change a page or add content by
just using a browser.
- Invite Team
–
Once you've created an online document, press the
Invite the Team button to send an email invitation. This invitation only goes to
your email account. You can then modify this email to your needs, and
forward it onto your team from inside your normal mail program.
- Link Your Web Site
–
Put a secure link to LOC Global on your
intranet or Internet Web site. When members of your team click on the link, a
popup window will appear with your project page. They will be required to login (and signup if they're
new to LOC Global). They can then instantly view and edit the page.
- Monitor Revisions
–
Our revision support keeps track of each change. Every change leaves a
footprint, and you can follow these easily and effectively. Email
notifications alert your team to changes. This ensures
that the most current and accurate versions of documents are shared across your
team, with an audit trail.
Who is using the LOC Global intranet technology?
The LOC Global intranet technology is being used by many major companies, because
it is very user friendly compared to some well established groupware systems
like Lotus Notes. Some examples:
- Disney -
Disney has one dedicated installation of the
LOC Global intranet technology. More than 2 GB of information is stored there
today.
- Motorola - Motorola has five dedicated installations of
the LOC Global intranet technology. Activity was recently 16,000 page hits per
day.
- British Telecom - British Telecom uses the LOC
Global intranet
technology to manage a wide range of internal and cross-organizational
projects.
How
is this intranet technology being deployed?
The LOC
Global intranet technology is being used to centralize logistics knowledge across
organizations, bringing together designers, engineers, production
managers, procurement agents, suppliers and contract
manufacturers. Here are six examples:
-
Design Collaboration - Bring together
designers, engineers and contract manufacturers to define specs and
requirements and collaboratively design an integrated product. LOC
Global intranet enables a distributed team to come together to deliver a high
quality product always to spec, and often ahead of schedule.
-
RFP/RFQ - Manage dozens of active RFPs across
a large community of competing vendors. The LOC Global intranet provides a central
environment for posting specifications and RFP criteria; a level playing
field for answering questions and clarifying issues; and the flexibility
to provide individual, secure intranets to competing vendors for
bringing together their own collaborative groups to complete, submit and
track the status of various RFP responses.
-
Supplier Scorecard - Discuss and define the appropriate metrics
for evaluating a new supplier's performance. Develop a "scorecard"
template embedded in the LOC Global intranet that maintains consistency
in the criteria used for evaluation. Once data has been collected on a
specific supplier, it's rolled up as a reference point for managing
supplier performance and negotiating contracts.
- Inventory Collaboration - Bring together key
internal and external personnel for supply planning and to head off
costly inventory stock-outs and overstock situations. When a variance is
detected, a notification is generated and pushed to all relevant
stakeholders, inviting them into the LOC Global intranet to resolve the issue.
The result is often a new set of inventory values and forecast
assumptions that can be automatically published back to various
enterprise systems.
- Shipping Collaboration - Use the LOC Global
intranet as a
central collaborative workplace for planning and setting shipping
strategy; tracking shipments; reporting status and reviewing progress
with production managers; and streamlining multi-tiered approval
processes and review cycles.
- Change-Order Management - Automate and
streamline the communication of engineering and production change
orders. Since a delay in communicating and implementing change orders
can lead to out-of-spec production, the LOC Global intranet can bring together
the right group to quickly phase the change order into place. And to
ensure that appropriate stakeholders are able to see and approve the
change order, the LOC Global intranet allows them to configure a custom
approval process.
